A small group of 9 had a great time in the Hochseilgarten on September 3rd 2011. For most, it was something completely new and different. The parcours catered for both the new and daring and we were all exhausted by the time we were finished. In fact, the ESOC climbing club were the last ones on the course as dusk set in.
Marti made the last big jump relying on the laws of physics to help him get through the last gauntlet rather than using the last quench of strength that was left after such a long day! It was great fun and will be surely organised eagerly again when the Winter is over!

OLD Post:
The date for the Hochseilgarten will be the 03/09/2011 at 15:00. We will meet there directly! If you’ve taking younger kids along, you may want to come earlier. I will try to be there at 14:00. Please add your name to the doodle so I can get an idea of how many people will be coming. Hopefully the weather will hold – you’re welcome to email me your mobile number just in case we need to postpone it due to the weather. See you there! Please check the website on how to get there: http://www.kletterwald-darmstadt.de/
What a fanstatic course!
Thanks to all who made it happen
– We spent two weekends going from the basics of mounting and unmounting fixings, ropes & knots and everything you should know before hitting the real cliffs. It was challenging but also got us all hooked on climbing in the great outdoors. It got tricky as of the point when we were on the Braut & Bräutigam (Coords: 49,14614 7,77243). The fact that our instructor Eric, mentioned that he used to climb up as a kid without any ropes or fixings didn’t really make us fell more at ease! The sourroundings of the Pfalz were beautiful and I guess we’ll be coming back here quite often!

OLD Note:
A course for outdoor climbing is planned on 17th and on the 24th of Sept. This is for those who can climb indoors but would like feel confident on the real rocks outdoors – You will learn rope management, anchoring, belaying and lowering for seconding climbers, all about the different outdoor techniques and what gear to use and of course the safety precautions for the different types of rocks. The first Saturday does more the safety aspects; the second is really using the gear on the walls. For this reason, the two weekends are at different fantastic locations in the area.

Hooray! The website is up again! Big thanks to all who helped. As you can see, the gallery is not quite working yet and we need someone with a creative touch for the layout etc. So, if you feel that you’re design-savvy and/or would like to volunteer being the web admin, please let me know. Please feel free to post like mad and keep this site living with content! – sven
In a most unexpected tragic event, Uwe past on last Thursday. For those of us whom new Uwe, we will remember him as a great colleague, leader, father and an inspiration and simply as a very nice person who shared the passion of climbing with us. Uwe’s kindness and positive attitude will be remembered by all – we will miss him.

Now that 2011 is well under way, we can successfully mark our first 2011 Club Nights and a huge beginner’s course. We welcomed 19 new climbers from ESOC and Eumetsat alike that had learnt how to belay and dangle off walls and finally, a bold few making “the jump” off the tree. The club nights for 2011 are intended to be mid month – so far we have tried to get a voting poll going for each club night (the more, the merrier). After the summer, the club nights will start again in September.
The first club nights have been on:
The 2010 AGM minutes of meeting held on the 10th of Feb. 2011. Big thanks for all those who participated and volunteered to help out this year! We are always looking for trip captains and people with ideas, so if you have any ideas on things the club can organise this year, let us know!! Club Trips can obviously get sponsored by the club – so if there are 5 or more members who are willing to go, we can look into picking up the bill for e.g. the transport costs etc.
The following committee was elected:
Chairman: Sven Schweinfurth
Treasurer: Sebastian Martin
Secretary: Olivier Samain

The first club night in 2010 was successfully held on the 17th Febuary. We will be having club nights on a monthly basis in the colder months. The club nights are a great way to get to know each other and where newbies and the more experienced, can share skills and learn new techniques. As always, the club picks up the tab for the entrance fees and any equipment rental of the members if necessary. So far, the club nights planned this year are on:
See you there!
